Popularity of Sasha Obama’s Dress Provides Help to Children

New York -- The tremendous response to a dress manufactured by Les Tout Petits and worn by Sasha Obama to the Kids Inaugural Ball has inspired the company to help children in poverty.  Les Tout Petits has been flooded with inquiries about the “mosaic peacock” dress Sasha wore on January 19, 2009. The company is donating 10% of the proceeds from the sale of each dress to Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S), a charity that helps children and their families affected by poverty.

“In the spirit of trying to effect change and give back, the sale of this dress will help K.I.D.S reach out to our nation’s 13 million children who live in poverty and suffer from distressed conditions,” said the dress’ designer, Lois Letzt of Les Tout Petits.  “K.I.D.S. is dedicated to improving the lives of children who are homeless, domestic abuse victims, children of military families, and victims of natural disasters.  We are very proud to support their work.”

In December 2006, just before announcing his candidacy for President, Barack Obama spoke at the K.I.D.S. fundraising dinner and recognized the important role that the organization and others like it can play in helping overcome many our society’s challenges:  “It is time for a sense of empathy to infuse our politics in America.  K.I.D.S. has spent over 20 years making this a reality. Now it is time for the rest of us to catch up.”

Les Tout Petits designs limited edition children’s dresses and sells them to upscale children boutiques around the country.  The company manufactures its entire line in New Jersey.  For more information about the company, visit http://www.lestoutpetits.com.

K.I.D.S. is a global charity that distributes new clothes, shoes, books, toys, juvenile products and back-to-school items to children in need through more than 1,000 grassroots non-profit agencies. In 2007, it distributed over $61 million worth of new products to over 4 million kids. For more information visit: www.kidsdonations.org

Don’t Call It a Comeback: Elle Brand Childrenswear Returns to the States
Rebecca Goldschmidt

The French have always had a refined style that the entire world admires and lusts after. If America is the young, experimental, carefree girl, France is the more experienced, established, and stylish older sister. But why should high fashion be limited to adults? For the little girl with a more European sensibility, sometimes pink polka dots and hoodies from the Gap might not be enough! ELLE, the kids’ clothing line, channels that Parisian essence and translates current fashion trends into wearable, practical pieces for girls from just 1-month up to age 16.

Sharing the same name as the world-famous fashion magazine, ELLE is now re-launching its girls’ clothing line in the United States. Due to licensing issues in the past, the line was previously forced to leave the American market and concentrate exclusively on Europe. For us Americans that’s probably a good thing, allowing the line to develop before their second debut stateside. The ELLE moniker helps quite a bit with marketing, lending the beautiful clothes credibility and jogging the memories of the line’s past presence in the States.

Sharing the same name as the world-famous fashion magazine, ELLE is now re-launching its girls’ clothing line in the United States.

The fall/winter 2009 collection is based on several themes, the main one being “a winter without a shiver.” The collection boasts lots of layers, smocked printed dresses under chunky knits, opaque tights, and slouchy boots. It is described as “…a way of life, a collection that is easy to wear day-to-day and that plays with prints, stripes and colors,” and also connotes “a feminine spirit that is playful, graphic and dynamic.” The four different trends that define this particular collection are Sweet Party, Paris Glamour, ELLE Sport, and Fairy Land. Each motif boasts a different cultivated color palette, like pink, beige, and taupe, or red, black, and ecru, while still maintaining a youthful edge. The fabrics and details—waxed denim trimmed with faux fur, glittery lycra jersey adorned with jewels—are what make this line so special, comfortable, and so appealing to parents and kids alike.
Starting in July 2009, the clothes will be available at highly exclusive boutiques across the States. Barney’s will carry it, as well as smaller boutiques like Tuesday’s Child in Brooklyn and Sunset Kids in Hollywood. They will also be expanding to more stores with their summer 2010 collection and are hoping to have ELLE corners in different boutiques. This exclusivity makes it highly coveted, which also unfortunately means it comes with a hefty price-tag. But for the price, the quality and design is top-notch, placing it in shops next to Little Marc Jacobs and Burberry Junior. Take a trip from New York to Paris with ELLE’s sophisticated layers, pretty silhouettes, and European flair!

Bykidsonly.com Launches, Empowering Children to Design Their Own Clothing

Kids Will Watch Their Input Come to Life as They Post and Vote on Designs for Eco-Friendly Shirts, Pants, Dresses and Pajamas to be Locally Produced

Philadelphia– Fashion Week may be over, but the fun is just starting for children who want the final say on what they wear.  Launched today, ByKidsOnly.com is an interactive site where children aged 5-13 draw and post their ideal shirts, dresses, pants – even pajamas – and vote on their favorites. Winning designs are interpreted by fashion designers into actual clothing that will be produced locally with eco-friendly materials and sold online and at select retailers for mid-range prices.

“Children love the idea of wearing something they helped create,” says Aviva Weiss, a pediatric occupational therapist and founder of Fun and Function LLC, parent of http://www.bykidsonly.com. “By letting them express verbally and visually what matters to them most, we can learn from them and hopefully produce apparel that they’re excited to wear.”
More than simply providing an outlet for their creativity, ByKidsOnly.com will let children express and address factors that most affect their level of comfort and contentment in what they wear.

“Children have so many idiosyncrasies about dressing,” Weiss adds. “When they are uncomfortable with the fabric, seams, or style, they can act out and become frustrated or stressed.” This is a particular challenge for children with autism, Asperger syndrome or sensory integration disorder, she says, as they can be acutely sensitive. For maximum comfort, the ByKidsOnly.com apparel line will be seamless, tagless and made from organic cotton and other natural fibers.

“Parents can go crazy washing the same thing every night because that’s all their kids will wear,” says Weiss. “We want to create a line that does away with the typical complaints they hear from their kids and offers options that are attractive, agreeable and affordable.”

About ByKidsOnly.com and Fun and Function LLC

ByKidsOnly.com is an interactive site that engages children in designing their own clothing for both fashion and comfort. The winning designs – as voted by children – are manufactured locally with eco-friendly materials and available for purchase. ByKidsOnly.com launched in March 2009 and is owned and operated by Fun and Function LLC in Merion Station, PA.

Fun and Function LLC launched in 2005 by pediatric occupational therapist Aviva Weiss and her husband Haskel, offers engaging, durable and functional play and therapy products at affordable prices, including an exclusive line of scooters, magical apparel, weighted compression vests, and portable writing kits. When she recognized that her own infant daughter had sensory processing difficulties, Aviva Weiss was frustrated by the lack of kid-friendly styling and high prices of existing special-needs products. She set out with a passion for eliciting the potential of all children, and began designing products that help kids feel good and achieve their best. Today, the company offers hundreds of innovative products marked by affordability and durability, valued by parents, pediatric therapists and educators.
